John R. Robinson died at the residence of his son, Samuel last Thursday, April 7, 1881 in the 74th year of his age. John R. Robinson was born in New Jersey May 2, 1807 and early in life came to Clark County, Ohio near Springfield, where he lived until about the year 1835, when he removed to Rockville, this state, where he remained until 1842 when he became a resident of this place, where he has since resided. He was married to Mrs. Mary Lydia King Oct 21, 1844. Their six children all survive him. He was for many years associated in business in this city and Rockville with John and John P. Sunderland. Funeral services were held at the residence of his son, Rev. Harris officiating, and the burial at Masonic Cemetery yesterday.-- kbz

Montgomery County people will be startled somewhat to learn of the sudden death of Jno. R. Robinson Sr who breathed his last on Wednesday evening. Mr. Robinson has been in his usual good health apparently until a week ago when he slipped and fell on the Nutt House pavement. He suffered considerably from the fall and was taken to the residence of his son Samuel on Walnut Street where he died as already stated. He was in the 74th year of his life and ordinarily was considered a remarkably well preserved and hearty man. He was born in Springfield, Ohio and came to Indiana in the year 1830 or 31 where he was engaged in the dry goods business as clerk and proprietor. About 1842 he removed to Crawfordsville and was married to Mrs. King, a Kentucky lady. Mrs. Robinson died several years ago, Mrs. Wm. Burbridge being her daughter by her first husband. Mr. Robinson was widely known and respected by many of our citizens as a man of pluck and geneality and was for two terms elected trustee of Union Township after retiring from business. He leaves six children to mourn the loss of a kind father, though all are able to care for themselves, Jno. R., Jr., Samuel, Charley, Thomas, Frank Gilbert and Emma Robinson. The funeral will occur on tomorrow afternoon from the residence of Samuel Robinson at 3 o’clock.
